Come Join Us for Athens Cleanup Day
Friends of Athens, in partnership with the Athens Village Board, Athens Conservation Advisory Council, and DPW, is pleased to participate in Athens Village Cleanup Day on April 30, 2022.
In honor of Earth Month, we are calling on our residents, neighbors and friends to collect trash from our local landscape.
As a non-profit community organization, Friends of Athens takes great pride in the health and beauty of our beloved village and aims to support a clean and safe environment for all to enjoy now and in the future to come.
Douglas Hendrie of Hendrie Construction will be donating his dumpster for debris collection and covering the associated removal costs. While Hendrie himself resides in West Coxsackie, many of his clientele call Athens home, tying him both regionally and professionally to the area.
“We enjoy and love giving back to the community. So, from my family to you, my friends, I’m [donating] my dump trailer to help with cleaning up and beautifying [this] lovely quaint town … I’m happy to foot the bill no matter the weight!”
— Douglas Hendrie, Hendrie Construction
After observing certain areas tend to accumulate the most environmental litter, the organizers intend to pay special attention to four specific zones, which have been designated as:
Leeds Athens Road
Union Street (NY-385 to Farm to Market Road)
Route NY-385/North Washington St. (between Union Street and River Road)
2nd Street (Water Street to Warren Street)
Participants will first meet in the DPW parking lot at 9:00 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
The parking lot is located behind the Athens Volunteer Fire Department, 39 3rd Street, Athens, NY 12015.
Trash bags and gloves will be provided.
Please sign up below to commit to a 2-hour window. All ages welcome with parental guidance.
Don’t forget to wear sunscreen! Hats and bottled water are encouraged.
Participants will be required to sign a waiver, which we’ll have available on-site.
